CIVITAS Forum Conference 2024 was held on 01st-03rd of October 2024, in Parma, Italy.
This dynamic, multi-day conference is the flagship event of the CIVITAS Initiative. In existence since 2003, the CIVITAS Forum provides the ideal opportunity to hear from the cities, people and projects that are driving innovation in smart, inclusive and sustainable mobility, as well as to exchange and connect with urban mobility changemakers from across Europe.
CIVITAS is one of the flagship programmes helping the European Commission achieve its ambitious mobility and transport goals, and in turn those in the European Green Deal. It does this by acting as a network of cities, for cities, dedicated to sustainable urban mobility. Through peer exchange, networking and training, CIVITAS fosters political commitment and boosts collective expertise, equipping cities to put mobility at the centre of decarbonisation. Since its launch in 2002, CIVITAS has advanced research and innovation in sustainable urban mobility and enabled local authorities to develop, test and roll out measures via a range of projects. A series of ten thematic areas underpin these. The need to shift to sustainable urban mobility is clear. Nearly 70% of EU citizens live in urban areas, where the effects of transport-produced greenhouse gas emissions – which account for a quarter of the EU’s total emissions – and noise pollution are felt most severely. These, alongside widespread congestion, are damaging quality of life and health.
CIVITAS Forum Conference 2024 embraced the theme “Join the mobility Renaissance“!
Mr. Giannis Kanellopoulos from ICCS, member of DELPHI’s coordinating team, shared the progress and key highlights from DELPHI project during an insightful panel discussion, as part of Session 16: Enhancing Traffic Management with Digital Twins and AI.
The session was moderated by our Project Officer, Mr. Thiago Tavares from CINEA, and it highlighted the collaborative efforts of the Multimodal Traffic Management Cluster, a group of EU-funded projects. He presented the key components for resilient multimodal transportation systems: technologies, data and policies. He then led the discussions on how to make the best use of AI, digital twins and other promising technologies such as CCAM in the Multimodal Traffic Management domain, including a very interesting interactive exchange between the panelists and the audience.

The collaboration between the aforementioned projects led to the creation of the “Multimodal Traffic Management: Roadmap for 2030 and Beyond“, a visionary framework that outlines strategic steps for implementing integrated traffic management systems across Europe. It tackles the intricate challenges of managing complex, multimodal transport networks.
