The International Symposium “Navigating the Future of Traffic Management” successfully took place from 29 June to 03 July 2025 in the vibrant city of Athens. This premier global event brought together traffic managers, engineers, practitioners, and researchers to exchange knowledge, share innovative practices, and explore cutting-edge technologies shaping the future of active traffic management.
Throughout the week, industry leaders and specialists from around the world led insightful discussions on current challenges, research needs, and emerging opportunities for collaboration across agencies and service providers. The symposium fostered a global dialogue on modern strategies to manage and control traffic across roadways, freeways, motorways, and tollways more effectively.
With a strong focus on safety, multimodal mobility, and climate-conscious solutions, the event highlighted the importance of rethinking traditional approaches and strengthening international partnerships. Participants left inspired and better equipped to navigate the evolving landscape of traffic management in a rapidly changing world.
As part of the conference, a parallel exhibition was held, highlighting cutting-edge technologies from domestic initiatives, groundbreaking projects, pilot research programs, and leading companies within the sector.
A standout feature of this year’s exhibition was the dissemination of material from the DELPHI project, designed to communicate the project’s objectives, key outcomes, and broader societal impact to both stakeholders and the general public.
In addition DELPHI, was presented on Workshop 8: International Advancements in Multimodal Traffic Management, on Monday, June 30, 2025, at 14:30 – 16:30.
Workshop 8, moderated by Evangelos Mitsakis, Research Director, CERTH, ( and coordinator of SYNCHROMODE project) was a dynamic and insightful session focused on the evolving landscape of Multimodal Traffic Management (MTM). Featuring distinguished speakers from top institutions and projects across Europe and the U.S., the workshop offered a comprehensive look at how data, AI, and simulation technologies are reshaping traffic ecosystems.
DELPHI Project was presented by Giannis Kanellopoulos of ICCS, offering exclusive insights into how DELPHI is contributing to the next generation of traffic management tools and methodologies. His presentation highlighted:
- DELPHI’s integrated approach to traffic data collection and analysis
- Real-world applications for improving multimodal urban mobility
- Synergies with EU-wide innovation initiatives
His presentation is available here.
The rest featured Presentations were delivered by distiguished speakers, namely:
- Dimitris Tzanis (CERTH-HIT): Live demonstration of the SYNCHROMODE Toolbox
- Dr. Antonio Pellicer Pous (AIMSUN): Simulation-based and data-driven MTM strategies
- Prof. Eleni Vlahogianni (NTUA): Machine learning applications in traffic management
- Dr. Kevin Miller (Southwest Research Institute): U.S. innovations & RM3P program outcomes
- Serafeim Zormpas (Frontier Innovations): New horizons in collaborative traffic dashboards
- Georgia Ayfantopoulou (CERTH-HIT): Vision for AI-driven, resilient urban traffic systems
