The Webinar Integration of Passenger and Freight Transport took place on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, online. It was organized by ALICE with teh active participation of EU DELPHI, URBANE and ULTIMO projects.
As urban centers face increasing congestion, environmental pressures, and the need for more efficient logistics, the integration of passenger and freight transport presents a promising solution. On April 16th, 2025, the webinar “Integration of Passenger and Freight Transport” gathered experts, researchers, and practitioners to explore how shared infrastructure and mobility services can improve sustainability and efficiency in urban environments.
The Key Objectives were to:
- Present innovative solutions that integrate passenger and freight transport.
- Share insights and lessons learned from the DELPHI, URBANE, and ULTIMO projects.
- Discuss policy and operational implications for urban mobility stakeholders.
- Promote collaboration and exploration of scalable solutions.
The Featured Projects presented their activities, and more in detail:
- DELPHI – Madrid Use Case
Focused on using the urban metro network for last-mile deliveries, examining viable business models and supporting regulatory frameworks. The presentation can be accessed here. - URBANE – Karlsruhe Use Case
Tested the use of automated delivery vehicles (ADVs) in combination with the tram network to enhance urban freight operations. - ULTIMO
Explored the extension of autonomous passenger transport systems to urban freight logistics, aiming to optimize shared mobility.
The Outcomes and Takeaways can be summurised to the following points:
- Increased awareness of co-modal transport approaches.
- Practical insights into challenges and opportunities for implementation.
- Identification of areas for future research, policy development, and collaboration.
